Summer Fun Outdoors!

Summer in our household is synonym of outdoor explorations. Not too many, but still worthwhile 🙂

Hubby and I have a hectic work schedule but we make it a point to take time off to have fun with our children during the Summer. One of the activities we like to do with our children is hiking.

Canada is a country with beautiful sights to see. There are a huge amount of parks and conservation areas that we can explore and enjoy. Two of our favourites are the Coldstream Conservation Area and the Komoka Provincial Park near our city.

For us, contact with nature is essential to a healthy development. We take the opportunity to teach our children the basics about nature and enjoy our silent moments by simply observing nature at its best.

Our expeditions are always full of excitement and sometimes we even have nice surprises. Last year, for example, we were fortunate to have actually seen a doe with its baby about 100 meters from us. They were grazing the greenery and slowly walking towards the wooded areas of the park. My only regret was that I forgot my camera at home… 🙂

This year, however, I went prepared! And look at what one of my daughters and I found!

My daughter was wondering why some of the leaves in the trees we were walking under looked so lacy. Seconds later we found the explanation. Some of the leaves were full of tiny caterpillars, who apparently had a really nice dinner :)

Here are some more photos of our outings from last week. Enjoy!

Walking through a boggy area has its risks. These wooden paths are great for crossing without harm.

We love open areas with lots of trees. It sounds contradictory but it just happens to be possible :)

In between the greenery we can sometimes find a splash of color. This time the culprit was this beautiful flower.

The quiet murmur of a stream is very soothing!

This is one of my favorite spots. I love how the vegetation complements the soothing rhythm of the stream.

Apparently since last time we were here, this tree got uprooted. It is huge and fell right across the path.

This tree grew sideways and provides an excellent balancing surface ;)

The park has lots of bridges that allow visitors to walk from ravine to ravine. Standing in the middle of the bridge and contemplating the beauty that surrounds us is simply breathtaking.

Uphill is the way to go! My calves didn't necessarily thank me for this hike ;)
